2006 Charity Donations

Every year the SCT Sports and Social Club make charity donations to organisations that are nominated by the staff.

This year donations totalling £4,800 were made to 11 different charities, two of which particularly stand out.

One of which was the Jubilee Sailing Trust, a charitable concern which organises the experience of sailing a tall ship off-shore to people of differing abilities aged 16 to over 70.

On the yard arm Operating the trips on their two specially built tall ships, the Lord Nelson and the Tenacious, they provide the crews with new skills, such as good communication and the value of team working, exciting thrills and challenges which they will take with them into the rest of their lives.

For further information on the Jubilee Sailing Trust go to their website at: www.jst.org.uk or email them on fundraising@jst.org.uk

The other is Wessex Cancer Trust, whose current projects include funding a chemotherapy unit on the Isle of Wight, The new unit will allow the chemotherapy team at St Mary's to treat more patients including some who currently have to travel to the mainland.  It is planned to open the new unit in July 2006.

The new unit will have a welcoming and supportive atmosphere providing a dedicated safe environment in which patients can be treated with privacy and dignity.  For further information on the Wessex Cancer Trust and the chemotherapy project go to their website at: www.wessexcancer.org
